Proper Scissor CareNo matter what the price you paid for your scissors, they still need to be taken care of. At the end of every haircut, at the salon or at home, you need to clean, lubricate and dry your haircutting scissors.
Cleaning your scissors or shears, 1st wash your scissors with warm, soapy water. Be careful with the tips, do not hit the scissors against the sides of the sink.
Drying your scissors, use a clean soft towel a lint free one would be idea. Make sure you dry in between the blades.
Lubricating your scissors, 1st open your scissors at a 90 degree angle and put a drop of oil at the joint where the blades meet. Then work the oil into the joint, do this by opening and closing the blades. This will help work out any dirt, dust, hair or chemicals that may be in the joint.
When you have finished cleaning, drying and lubricating your scissors, then store them in a pouch. If you just throw the shears into a box or drawer the tips of the blades could get damaged.
Proper Use of your Scissors
If you follow these simple guidelines your haircutting scissors can last you a long time.
1st never use your scissors for anything else other than cutting hair. NEVER
2nd Only cut CLEAN hair with your scissors.
3rd Check your scissors and see if they need adjusting
4th If after cleaning and lubricating your scissors they don't seem to be working propertly them get them sharepened by a professional sharpener only.
5th Keep all your haircutting shears away form any perm, coloring chemicals or any comb sterilization these things will damage your scissors.
6th Do not drop your scissors, dropping your scissors can be the most damage you can do to them. This can creat nicks in the baldes. If you were to nick your blades do not force them to close, this will only damage them further! Just keep the blades open and store them safely until you can get them repaired. Also if you drop them you can "knock" them out of alignmnet and damage the tension set in your shears. If the tips do not meet if you need your scissors repaired.
Just remember to lenghten the life your scissors, keep them clean, lubricated and dry. Also remember you get what you pay for, if you are going to purchase a pair of hair cutting shears and just give a occasional haircut at home them a cheaper pair will do but if you cut hair everyday or for a living then you will need to invest in a more of an expensive pair of scissors.
Remember a good hair cut is just a good pair of haircutting scissors away!
